Protected Designation of Origin

Protected under the Protected Designation of Origin “Ibores cheese”, the “Monterreña” and “Caprinus” are fatty cheeses, with a cylindrical shape and sensibly flat faces. Of semi-hard bark, they have a minimum maturity of 2 months and provide an irresistible characteristic and buttery flavor to the palate; this provides a mild aftertaste to raw milk.

This cheese is available with natural crust, and with crust spread on paprika, in formats of approximately 850 grams and halves of approximately 350 grams.

The quality of the Monterreña cheese is endorsed by the “Extrema Selección” product award granted by the Regional Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Junta de Extremadura in 2010. This award recognizes the best agricultural products from Extremadura with Protected Designation of Origin, recognizing the high quality of the product that complies with European regulations, whose requirements are superior to the rest of products.

Also this cheese received the first prize of the national fair of the cheese of Aceuche 2014.
